Heathrow, the UK’s biggest and most congested airport, recorded its best month on record in July.
The summer travel getaway drove passenger numbers to 7.53m last month, a climb of 1.2 per cent compared to July last year and Heathrow’s best month in history.
The Middle East proved a particularly attractive destination for travelers last month, with passenger numbers to the region rising 7 per cent. Trade through Heathrow also accelerated at its fastest recorded rate, up 15 per cent to 143,000 tonnes.
Heathrow notched up a record year in 2016-17 with 75.7m passengers, helping revenues climb 1.5 per cent in the year as it shrugged off worries about a slowing UK economy and crimped consumer confidence in the wake of the Brexit vote.
