Shares in ITV are up 2.5 per cent after the UK’s largest commercial broadcaster announced the appointment of easyJet boss Carolyn McCall as its new chief executive.
Shares rallied to 174p after ITV revealed the appointment. A former chief executive at Guardian Media Group, Dame Carolyn succeeds Adam Crozier in the role.
She beat competition from Direct Line boss Paul Geddes and the head of Scottish broadcaster STV Rob Woodward, and will take up her role in January.
Dame Carolyn will take charge of ITV at a difficult time, with the UK TV advertising market heading for its worst year since the financial crash in 2009.
